Sparky Kenya’s latest commentary has sparked conversation after he urged the government to review bodaboda regulations with a focus on passenger comfort. The microblading specialist and TikTok creator shared his views in a video posted on Thursday, December 4, 2025, explaining that the physical demands of motorcycle taxi transport require standards that put passenger experience first. His remarks were framed as concerns about space, visibility and overall ease during pillion rides.

What concerns did Sparky Kenya raise about passenger comfort?
In his video, Sparky said that some bodaboda riders make it challenging for passengers to sit with enough room or maintain good visibility on the road. He explained that limited space can affect mobility for both the rider and the passenger. According to him, these issues can directly interfere with how safe or breathable the ride feels.

Sparky stated, “Actually, it’s not out of malice, but I feel that bodaboda riders should consider the comfort of their passengers. When someone becomes very large, it makes it difficult for the pillion passenger to sit comfortably, and sometimes the passenger can’t even see ahead or breathe properly.”
His focus throughout the video was on the experience of passengers and the need for consistency in how transport operators manage comfort and professionalism.

He compared his proposal to the regulations applied in the airline industry, where staff must meet certain professional standards. In the same spirit, he argued that bodaboda operations could benefit from clearer guidelines around factors that influence passenger space and safety. Sparky added, “I think the government should introduce a rule where if a bodaboda rider becomes overweight, they should be reassigned to services like Uber instead. Some riders are so big that it becomes uncomfortable and even unsafe for passengers.”

Should bodaboda regulations include appearance-based standards?
Sparky emphasised multiple times that his comments were not intended to insult riders but to draw attention to what he described as a practical concern in daily transport. He said the goal is to improve overall standards and create a predictable, comfortable environment for passengers using one of Kenya’s most relied-upon transport services. He also repeated that any future guidelines should be framed with professionalism in mind, not discrimination.

“It should be like how airlines regulate the physical requirements for flight attendants, bodaboda riders should maintain a certain shape, ideally slim, to ensure passengers can ride safely and comfortably. This is not meant to offend anyone, but to highlight the issue of passenger comfort and safety,” he added.
