Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has shared a heartfelt glimpse into his life with his wife, Laventa Amutavi, revealing how their love story began and why she continues to be a key pillar in his life. In an interview on Dr Ofweneke’s Lesson at 30 segment, Omanyala described their journey from friendship to love, long before he became a continental sprint sensation.

“We met in 2016 at one of the university’s events. I saw her and I was like, ‘Huyu anakimbia fiti.’ We became friends and started dating after six months,” he said, reflecting on the early days of their relationship. The sprint star emphasized the depth of his feelings, adding, “She is my first love. I did not have a partner before her.”

What Makes Laventa So Special to Omanyala?

Omanyala praised Laventa’s humility, highlighting it as one of the qualities that drew him to her. “She is very humble; ukipata dem mwengine akuwe na mtu ako na such kind of things atanza kuruka ruka, but for her, she is very humble,” he explained. Her grounded nature has remained constant, even as Omanyala broke the African sprinting record and became one of the continent’s most recognized athletes. The couple has navigated the highs and lows of his athletic journey together, strengthening their bond through both triumphs and challenges.

Laventa is an accomplished athlete herself. She revealed in a 2021 interview that their relationship blossomed during inter-university competitions. Their first child, Quinton Omanyala, was born while they were still in university, Laventa at Moi University and Omanyala at the University of Nairobi. She also recalled, “In 2017, after performing well in university championships both in Kenya and East Africa, I was chosen to represent Kenya at the World University Games in Taipei. Coincidentally, Omanyala, whom I had started dating the previous year, was also headhunted for the games. The officials did not know we were dating.”

Laventa has a passion for sprinting, with her favourite event being the 100-metre dash, a race Omanyala has mastered. She has also competed in long jump competitions, achieving notable success at the university level. Her dedication to athletics complements Omanyala’s career, creating a shared understanding of discipline and performance that has cemented their partnership both on and off the track.
