Argentina will play Friday’s international friendly against Angola without three key Atletico Madrid players, Julian Alvarez, Nahuel Molina, and Giuliano Simeone, after the trio failed to meet Angola’s yellow fever vaccination requirements.

According to a statement released by the Argentina Football Association (AFA) on Monday, the players were unable to complete the necessary health procedures tied to the yellow fever vaccine in time for the trip. “The players did not complete in time the health procedures related to the yellow fever vaccine, which is required to enter Angola,” the AFA said.

Why Is the Yellow Fever Vaccine Mandatory?

Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease present in certain regions of Africa and South America. To prevent outbreaks and ensure player safety, Angola, like many African countries, requires all travelers from abroad to present proof of vaccination before entry.

Despite the absence of the Atletico trio, Argentina will move forward with their plans to face Angola in Luanda. The world champions have already secured qualification for next year’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The friendly match will serve as part of Argentina’s ongoing preparations, allowing coach Lionel Scaloni to test squad depth and maintain momentum ahead of the global tournament.
