A tragic plane crash in Kwale County has claimed the lives of all 12 people on board after the aircraft went down in the Tsimba-Matuga area of Matuga Constituency on Tuesday morning.
According to Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) Director General Emile Arao, the plane, registration number 5Y-CCA, was carrying tourists and was en route from Diani to Kichwa Tembo in the Maasai Mara when it crashed. “The aircraft was heading to Kichwa Tembo in Maasai Mara from Diani before crashing,” Arao confirmed.
A Citizen TV reporter at the scene said the plane erupted into flames upon impact, leaving wreckage scattered across the crash site. Photos circulating online show smouldering debris and fragments of the aircraft strewn across a vast area.
Security teams, including police and disaster response units, quickly moved in to cordon off the area and begin rescue operations. However, officials at the scene noted that harsh weather conditions were slowing down the recovery process.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash as families and agencies await official updates from aviation and government officials.
