Ange Postecoglou’s short and turbulent spell at Nottingham Forest has come to an end after just 40 days in charge. The Australian manager was dismissed late Saturday night, hours after his side’s crushing 3–0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground. The loss left Forest without a single Premier League win this season and sitting 17th on the table, just one point above the relegation zone.
The defeat sparked fury among supporters, many of whom walked out of the stadium before the final whistle. The atmosphere turned toxic as boos filled the stands, with fans expressing frustration over what has been officially recorded as the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
Forest’s board confirmed Postecoglou’s sacking in a brief statement, thanking him for his efforts but citing the need for “urgent change to stabilize team performance.” His exit comes after just over a month at the helm, a stunning fall from grace for a coach once hailed for his attacking philosophy and prior success with Celtic and Tottenham.
Before his dismissal, Postecoglou had insisted he could turn things around if given time. “If I am given time at a club, it always ends with me and a trophy,” he had said defiantly after the Chelsea defeat. But time, it seems, ran out quickly in Nottingham.
Forest’s board is now expected to appoint an interim manager ahead of their next league fixture as they scramble to revive their season. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s commanding victory lifted them within two points of league leaders Arsenal, piling further pressure on a Nottingham side still searching for its first win of the campaign.
