
Kenya’s world champion and Olympic gold medalist, Beatrice Chebe,t is set to receive an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters from the University of Kabianga for her remarkable contribution to global athletics and her influence as a role model in sports.
According to a gazette notice released on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the university confirmed that Chebet’s recognition is a celebration of her excellence, resilience, and dedication to long-distance running. “The University of Kabianga has nominated Ms. Beatrice Chebet for the award of the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters,” read the statement in part.
The institution praised Chebet’s outstanding discipline and performance, highlighting her dominance in global competitions. “Ms. Chebet has demonstrated exceptional talent and discipline in sports globally, particularly in long-distance running. She is a double gold medalist in the 10,000 m and 5,000 m races of the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2025 World Athletics Championships,” the university stated.

When Will the Honorary Degree Be Awarded?
The University of Kabianga has confirmed that the conferment will take place during its 13th Graduation Ceremony on Friday, November 14, 2025. “The conferment of the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters is scheduled to take place during the 13th Graduation Ceremony of the University of Kabianga to be held on Friday, 14th November, 2025,” the notice read.
Chebet has also been nominated for the World Athlete of the Year 2025, further solidifying her status as one of Kenya’s most celebrated athletes. Her story continues to inspire women, youth, and aspiring sports professionals across the globe a true testament to Kenya’s lasting legacy in athletics.
