Hussein Mohammed Celebrates Historic FIFA Appointment as Major Win for Kenyan Football

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has hailed his appointment to the FIFA Institutional Relations Committee as a major milestone for Kenyan football, calling it a proud victory for both the country and the region.

FIFA confirmed Hussein’s inclusion through an official announcement on the composition of its standing committees for the 2025–2029 cycle. His appointment marks the first time Kenya has been represented in one of FIFA’s top decision-making bodies, signaling global recognition of the country’s recent football reforms and growing leadership within the sport.

What Does Hussein Mohammed’s FIFA Appointment Mean for Kenya?

Speaking after the announcement, Hussein expressed his gratitude to FIFA for the trust shown in Kenya. “First of all, my gratitude to the team at FIFA for trusting Kenya with these critical positions in the standing committees. It’s the first time for Kenya to be in these committees at the global level, and we have shown our dedication to improving football standards not just for Kenya but for the entire region,” he said.

He also credited Kenya’s successful hosting of the CHAN2024 tournament for boosting the country’s credibility on the international stage. “We’ve shown the rest of the world that we have the capacity and commitment to develop football and strengthen our institutions as FKF. We’re ready for bigger, better things for our country and for the CECAFA region,” Hussein emphasized.

How Is the Government Supporting Kenya’s Rise in World Football?

The FKF president praised the government’s role in elevating Kenyan football internationally, thanking President William Ruto and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya for their support. “The guidance and vision of His Excellency the President have catapulted us to the global level. We will not let Kenyans down, we will represent the country and Africa in the best way possible,” he assured.

The FIFA Institutional Relations Committee plays a vital role in promoting cooperation between FIFA, continental confederations, and international institutions while ensuring strong governance and collaboration across the sport’s global network.

In addition to Hussein’s appointment, FKF National Executive Committee member and Donholm Seniors FC President Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim was named to the FIFA Stadium and Security Committee, another significant recognition for Kenya’s growing role in world football governance.
