The Kenyan government has announced plans to financially support content creators and influencers who focus on its flagship programs, including affordable housing, healthcare, job creation, and agriculture.

During a creator education forum on Wednesday, Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, said the government is ready to directly invest in creators who highlight these initiatives.

“The government is willing to put money specifically for a few things that government is doing, and you can benefit directly,” Itumbi said. “I would want creators to take advantage, if you do content around housing, health, job creation and agriculture. We are willing to put money and content for you.”

How Will Content Creators Benefit?

Itumbi explained that the government has restructured its advertising approach, moving away from manual systems to digital platforms where most young Kenyans consume content. He encouraged creators to take advantage of this shift, noting that in 2023, President William Ruto directed that 30% of government advertising revenue be allocated to digital platforms.

“We give you the money and notes for you to create content and earn by just posting on TikTok around those agendas,” he added.

Through the program, creators will be able to submit proposals to the Creative Economy Office. These proposals should outline how they plan to showcase government projects in a creative, engaging, and informative way.

According to Itumbi, this initiative is part of a broader Kenya Kwanza government strategy to enhance communication, improve transparency, and ensure citizens are kept informed about development projects. By involving digital creators directly, the government hopes to make its key programs more relatable and accessible to the public.
