Ruben Amorim Insists Ratcliffe Meeting Was Not a Manchester United Crisis Talk

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has dismissed suggestions that his meeting with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe was a crisis summit, despite the club’s slow start to the Premier League season. United have collected only four points from their opening four league matches and were knocked out of the League Cup by fourth-tier side Grimsby in a shocking upset.

What Did Amorim and Ratcliffe Discuss?

Amorim, who has managed just eight wins in 31 league matches since taking charge in November, revealed that Ratcliffe used the meeting to show support and reinforce faith in a long-term project. “A new contract,” Amorim joked when asked about the conversation. “No, it is normal things, just to show the support and explain that it is a long project.”

Are Manchester United Improving Under Amorim?

The former Sporting Lisbon coach believes the team is heading in the right direction, even if results do not yet reflect progress. “This is football at the club with maybe more pressure in the world, but we want to win,” he said. Amorim explained that the squad is playing better compared to last season, but must improve inside both penalty areas. “We are playing well until the boxes, defending and attacking, we need to be more aggressive in the boxes. We need to be more clinical. The rest, I think, we are improving compared to last year.”

United, who finished 15th last season, now face another major test with Chelsea visiting Old Trafford on Saturday. The good news for Amorim is that Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha are back from injury, giving him more attacking options as pressure mounts to turn performances into results.
