Detectives in Kakamega County are investigating the brutal killing of Faith Kiliswa Namakwangwachi, a fourth-year Alupe University student who was stabbed to death at Mbande Guest House in Matete, Lugari Constituency.
According to preliminary reports, Faith checked into the guest house on Tuesday, September 16, with her boyfriend, identified as Dubicuss Wafula. Hours later, she was found murdered with multiple stab wounds. Investigators believe the fatal attack occurred shortly after the two had an intimate encounter.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the crime but was arrested in Muhoroni while attempting to travel to Nairobi. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Wafula is the prime suspect in the case and remains in custody.
How did leaders respond to Faith’s death?
Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera commended detectives for their swift action and the cooperation of Faith’s family, which led to Wafula’s arrest.
“I commend the family for their cooperation and for reaching out in good time, which made it possible to respond swiftly and arrest the perpetrator of the heinous act of murder,” Nabwera said in a statement.
He also praised his staff and DCI officers for their teamwork in handling the delicate operation.
What message was shared with the family?
In his condolence message, Nabwera described Faith’s killing as both tragic and untimely.
“On behalf of the people of Lugari Constituency and on my own behalf, I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Faith Kiliswa Namakwangwachi, following her tragic and untimely death. Faith, a bright Fourth-year student at Alupe University, was robbed of her future most brutally, leaving a deep wound in the hearts of many,” he stated.
Faith’s death comes barely a month after she buried her mother on August 25, 2025, following cardiac arrest. The double tragedy has left her family and community in deep mourning.
As investigations continue, authorities have pledged justice for Faith, whose life was cut short in an act of intimate partner violence that has shocked the Lugari community and beyond.
