Gianluigi Donnarumma has officially joined Manchester City, calling his move to England the start of a “new chapter” in his career. The Italian goalkeeper arrived from Paris Saint-Germain in a £30 million transfer on deadline day and trained with his new teammates for the first time on Thursday.
The 26-year-old could make his debut as early as Sunday in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, a stage he has long dreamed of. “It’s a new chapter in my life and my career. Playing in the Premier League with Manchester City is a great emotion for me, and I’m ready for this challenge,” he said.
Why did Donnarumma leave PSG?
Donnarumma’s departure came after PSG coach Luis Enrique made it clear the keeper was no longer his first choice. Despite helping the French giants win the Champions League and securing his fourth Ligue 1 title last season, his future in Paris quickly closed, opening the door for City to secure his services.

What does Donnarumma expect at City?
The Italian international has been vocal about his admiration for the Premier League. “I’ve always dreamt about playing in the Premier League as it’s the best league in the world. For a player, I think achieving in the Premier League is the maximum for his career, therefore I’m really happy to be here,” he explained.
He also praised Manchester City’s facilities and culture. “It’s a club that has always fascinated me. I see everything around me, like the training centre and the stadium, they are fantastic. You can’t tell what the club values are until you really see it with your own eyes.”
Donnarumma has set his sights on winning trophies and cementing his legacy at the club. “I hope I will make history here and win as many trophies as possible; that is my goal. I am fully focused on my new challenge here now to make history and become a symbol for the city and for the club.”
With Pep Guardiola guiding him and a strong team in front of him, Donnarumma has the stage to prove himself in what he calls the “best league in the world.”
