Kenyan international defender Alphonce Omija has officially parted ways with Gor Mahia, penning an emotional farewell after sealing a career-defining transfer to Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel. The 22-year-old rejected a new two-year deal with K’Ogalo in August and instead agreed terms with the 11-time Tunisia Ligue 1 champions, marking a major step in his rising career.

What Did Omija Say in His Farewell Message?
Taking to Facebook, Omija left a heartfelt note for Gor Mahia and its fans. “Gor Mahia Will Forever Be My Home Gor Mahono Damu Ni Green. Since @gor.mahiayouthfc,” he wrote.
He continued, “And for the past year, playing for Gor Mahia has been a true honor. Very incredible, full of emotions, I will miss every moment, the battles, and the smiles we shared. Wishing you the very best in the future.”
To the club’s supporters, he added, “To the #GreenArmySupporters, Thank you for your love and support, you made it more beautiful. Wish I could have said goodbye in a better way, but know my love for you is endless.”
Closing his message, Omija appreciated the club’s leadership: “And to the club’s management – nothing much. I appreciate each of you. With Much Love; OMIJA #AO5.”
Why Is the Etoile du Sahel’s Move Significant?
Omija’s unveiling in Tunisia comes after a standout season with Gor Mahia, where his defensive presence was key to their domestic success. His switch to Etoile du Sahel not only highlights his steady rise in club football but also opens doors to bigger opportunities on the international stage.

How Did Omija Perform in CHAN 2024?
The young defender was one of Kenya’s standout players during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. He started in two matches and came off the bench in two more, showcasing composure and discipline in defense. His contributions helped the Harambee Stars top Group A with ten points, defeating Morocco, DR Congo, and Zambia, while drawing with Angola.
