Harambee Stars forward Ryan-Wesley Ogam has bid an emotional farewell to Tusker FC after sealing a high-profile transfer to Austrian Bundesliga side Wolfsberger AC. The 21-year-old, who joined Tusker last summer, credited the Brewers for providing the platform that elevated his career.
How Did Ogam Describe His Journey at Tusker?
Ogam made a final stop at Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday to thank teammates and staff before heading to Austria after the international break. “I sincerely thank Tusker for trusting me and giving me this platform. It has been a huge motivation for me to grow as a player and give my very best,” he said.
He added, “My experience at Tusker has been a credible journey. I want to thank everyone, from management, the technical bench, and the coaching staff. Without them, I would not have made it this far.”
His move ends speculation linking him to Gor Mahia, especially after K’Ogalo patron Eliud Owalo reportedly held talks with his parents and Tusker defender Mike Kibwage, who later signed for Gor as a free agent.
What Were His Key Highlights at Tusker?
Despite an untimely injury that required surgery and kept him out for three months, Ogam had already scored 15 goals in 16 appearances, giving him an eight-goal lead in the top-scorer’s race. His return on the final day against Kakamega Homeboyz was not enough to secure the golden boot, which went to Moses Shummah with 17 goals.
Ogam’s form also earned him a place in Harambee Stars’ CHAN 2024 squad, where he featured in five matches and scored twice.
The striker revealed that his Tusker move came after unsuccessful transfer attempts to the USA and Sweden. “After my time in Dubai, there were plans to take me either to the USA or Sweden. During the off-season, Tusker approached me, and I decided to join while awaiting an overseas move. Nothing materialized, so I chose to settle at Tusker, build my name, and give my best to the club. I’m glad this paid off,” he reflected.
Looking ahead, Ogam described his Wolfsberger AC move as both a challenge and a stepping stone. “It’s a big step, but also a stepping stone. I know the responsibility is greater, and I must push myself harder than ever before to achieve my goals. From there, we will see what the next stage holds,” he said.
Wolfsberger AC currently sits sixth in the 12-team Austrian Bundesliga with seven points, six behind leaders Rapid Wien.
