How Did Tanzania Dominate Burkina Faso in Their First Match?
Tanzania kicked off their CHAN 2024 campaign with a commanding 2-0 win over Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. Playing in front of a passionate home crowd, the Taifa Stars controlled the match from start to finish, displaying sharp coordination, disciplined defense, and a confident attacking game.
The hosts showed early intent, with Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper nearly fumbling a cross in the fourth minute. Although Burkina Faso’s Souleymane Sangaré was threatened with a shot in the 17th minute, Tanzania’s keeper Yakoub Alo was alert and collected the ball comfortably.
Tanzania had multiple close chances, including a missed header by Mudathiri Abbas and a near miss by Feisal Abdallah. Their breakthrough came just before halftime when Clement Mzize was fouled in the box by Frank Tologo. Abdul Suleiman stepped up and calmly converted the penalty, putting the Taifa Stars ahead as the stadium erupted in celebration.
What Happened in the Second Half of the Match?
Burkina Faso began the second half with renewed energy but failed to generate serious scoring opportunities. Tanzania, under the guidance of coach Hemed ‘Morocco’ Suleiman, maintained composure and continued creating chances.
In the 70th minute, the pressure paid off. Mohamed Hussein capitalized on a defensive error after Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper misjudged a long ball. Following a quick VAR review, Hussein’s header into an empty net was confirmed, sealing the 2-0 result for Tanzania.

What’s Next for Tanzania and Group B?
Tanzania will now shift focus to their next Group B match against Mauritania on August 6. After their strong opening, the Taifa Stars will aim to carry their momentum forward and edge closer to the knockout rounds.
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso will need to regroup before facing the Central African Republic. As the CHAN 2024 tournament unfolds, fans can expect even more high-stakes action from this tightly contested group.
