When Will Safari Rally Kenya 2026 Take Place?
The FIA has officially confirmed that the Safari Rally Kenya will be held from March 12 to 15, 2026, as the third round of the 2026 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Kenya’s event will follow the season openers in Monte Carlo (January 22–25) and Sweden (February 12–15), continuing its reputation as one of the most scenic and demanding gravel rallies on the WRC circuit.
The rally, which takes place across Kenya’s stunning yet rugged terrains, has been part of the WRC calendar under a renewed deal since 2020. With the initial five-year agreement now extended to 2026, the upcoming edition could be a pivotal year for the future of the Safari Rally in the country.
What Makes the 2026 WRC Calendar Unique?
The FIA’s 2026 calendar spans four continents with 14 rounds, promising a balanced mix of snow, gravel, and asphalt. From the icy roads of Monte Carlo to the desert terrain of Saudi Arabia, the season is designed to offer diverse challenges for drivers. The inclusion of returning events in the Canary Islands and Paraguay adds to the excitement, while Japan’s repositioned May slot introduces fairer competition by interrupting a long run of gravel events.
“This is a calendar built with purpose,” said WRC Promoter Managing Director Jona Siebel. “It’s diverse, it flows well, and it reflects the feedback we’ve had from teams, drivers, and stakeholders. We’ve put real thought into how the sequence of events can impact the sporting fight.”
Why Is Safari Rally Important for Kenya?
Safari Rally Kenya remains a flagship motorsport event, drawing international attention and economic benefits to the country. With its legacy stretching back decades, the event not only tests the skill of world-class drivers but also showcases Kenya’s unique landscape and hospitality.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized the global appeal of the 2026 season: “The 2026 WRC calendar is a powerful reflection of the championship’s global strength and appeal. It combines the heritage of iconic rallies with the return of newer events in regions where participation and interest in rallying continues to grow.”
