Why Did Kenya vs DRC Tickets Sell Out So Quickly?
Match tickets for Kenya’s opening fixture against the Democratic Republic of Congo at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) have officially sold out, six days before kickoff. The game is scheduled for this Sunday at 3 PM at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The strong demand reflects the growing excitement across the country and the continent. Fans moved swiftly to secure their seats following a statement by Local Organising Committee (LOC) chair Nicholas Musonye, who confirmed that no tickets will be available for sale on match days.
This decision, Musonye said, was made “to enhance crowd control and overall match security during matches.”
Ticket prices were set at Ksh 200 for regular entry, Ksh 500 for VIP, and Ksh 1,000 for VVIP access. The structure was designed to accommodate fans from all walks of life while maintaining order and comfort in the stadium.
What Are Officials Saying About CHAN 2024 in Kenya?
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has called on supporters from across the continent to show up in large numbers, assuring them of security at all venues. His sentiments were echoed by CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo, who encouraged Kenyans to embrace the Pamoja spirit and rally behind the national team.
Mosengo also highlighted the importance of strong attendance as Kenya positions itself to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Where Will Kenya Play Next, and When Are Tickets Available?
All of Kenya’s group matches will be held at Kasarani, with Nyayo Stadium on standby as an alternative venue. After facing DRC, Kenya’s next game will be against Angola. Tickets for that match will be available starting July 29, 2025, at exactly 0000hrs (midnight).
The early sell-out of the Kenya vs DRC clash signals a promising start for CHAN 2024 in Nairobi, with packed stadiums, passionate fans, and a country ready to shine on the continental stage.
