What Will Happen to Jota’s Liverpool Salary?
Following the sudden and tragic death of Diogo Jota in a car crash alongside his brother André Silva, Liverpool FC has stepped in with a significant gesture of support. According to Portuguese outlet Record, the club will honour the remainder of Jota’s contract by paying his salary to his family. Jota, who passed away at 28, had two years left on his deal at Liverpool and earned around £140,000 per week (approximately KSh 23 million). In total, the club is expected to pay around KSh 2.4 billion to support his wife, Rute Cardoso, and their three children.

How Did Liverpool Teammates React to His Passing?
Jota’s funeral, held on Saturday, brought together his teammates, family, and fans in a moving farewell. Captain Virgil van Dijk addressed the emotional gathering, sharing, “My heart is breaking for all of your beautiful family, for Rute and your kids. I promise you that in these difficult times and beyond, we will always be there for your family.”
His defensive partner, Ibrahima Konaté, added, “I am truly devastated by this news… You can be sure of one thing: your family won’t walk alone. We’ll be there to help them through this devastating moment.”

Who Else Paid Tribute to Jota?
Former Wolves teammate and close friend Ruben Neves offered a personal promise: “I’m going to make sure you’re always present, and I’ll make sure that your loved ones never lack anything while you’re there, far away, but thinking of us, waiting for us.”
At the funeral service, grief was visible. Jota’s wife and mother had to be supported during the ceremony as they struggled to come to terms with the loss. Despite Liverpool’s generous gesture, it’s clear that no amount of money can replace the father, son, and husband they lost. However, the football community’s commitment to Jota’s family ensures that his legacy lives on, not just as a player but as a cherished friend and teammate.
