Why Did Zubimendi Choose Arsenal?
Arsenal have officially signed Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad after activating his £51 million release clause. Reports from the BBC suggest the Gunners opted to pay close to £60 million to spread out the fee over time. Zubimendi, fresh off a Euro 2024 win with Spain, described the transfer as a defining moment in his career.

“This is a huge moment in my career,” he said. “It’s the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are.”

The 26-year-old highlighted Arsenal’s playing style as a key factor in his decision, adding, “I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently, and the best is yet to come.”

What Impact Will Zubimendi Have at Arsenal?
Zubimendi brings over 230 appearances for Real Sociedad and 19 caps for Spain to North London. His arrival is expected to strengthen Arsenal’s midfield following the departure of Thomas Partey and Jorginho. His presence will allow Declan Rice to take on a more attacking role alongside captain Martin Ødegaard.

Manager Mikel Arteta welcomed the signing, stating, “Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team. He will fit in well, and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us.”

What’s Next for Arsenal in the Transfer Window?
Zubimendi becomes Arsenal’s second major signing this summer, following the arrival of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. The Gunners are also close to completing a move for Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard.

Attention now shifts to securing a top striker. Arsenal are targeting RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres to lead the line. With Arteta aiming to break the club’s 20-year Premier League title drought, bolstering the forward line is seen as a key priority for the season ahead.
