How did Manchester City dominate their Club World Cup group stage?
Manchester City put on a commanding display at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, dismantling Juventus 5-2 in front of 54,320 fans to become the only team to win all three group matches at this year’s Club World Cup. Jeremy Doku kicked things off early after a well-weighted pass from Rayan Ait-Nouri, before Juventus briefly equalized through Teun Koopmeiners following a rare error from City goalkeeper Ederson.
City regained control when Pierre Kalulu accidentally turned in Matheus Nunes’ cross for an own goal, and the Premier League side never looked back. Erling Haaland’s second-half introduction brought instant impact, as he calmly tapped in City’s third and helped set up Phil Foden for the fourth. Savinho capped off the five-star performance with a long-range strike. Despite a late consolation goal from Dusan Vlahovic, Juventus were left outclassed.
“Manchester City have a lot better (quality of) players than us, that’s the truth, that needs to be acknowledged,” admitted Juventus coach Igor Tudor. City now advances to face Al Hilal in the next round, with the Saudi club edging out Pachuca 2-0 thanks to goals from Salem Al-Dawsari and Marcos Leonardo.

What happened in Real Madrid’s clinical win over Salzburg?
In Philadelphia, Real Madrid secured their spot in the last 16 with a 3-0 victory over Salzburg, with Vinicius Junior playing a starring role. The Brazilian forward opened the scoring in the 40th minute after a sharp through-ball from Jude Bellingham, sending the 64,811-strong crowd into raptures. Moments later, Vinicius delivered a slick backheel assist for Federico Valverde to double the lead just before halftime.
Gonzalo Garcia wrapped up the scoring late on, notching his second goal of the tournament and helping Xabi Alonso’s squad maintain their unbeaten run. “I am pleased with the boys, and now the interesting phase begins,” Alonso said after the match.
Real Madrid will face Juventus in the last 16 in Miami on Tuesday. The Spanish giants have been without Kylian Mbappe so far, as the star forward continues to recover from illness. “We thought Kylian would make it, and it wasn’t to be. Now we have four days, and I want to be optimistic but cautious at the same time,” Alonso added.
Which other teams made headlines in the tournament?
Al Ain wrapped up their campaign with a 2-1 win over Wydad Casablanca in Washington, DC. Cassius Mailula opened the scoring for the Moroccan side before Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba equalized from the penalty spot for Al Ain, who had previously suffered heavy defeats to Juventus and City. Paraguayan international Alejandro Romero then sealed the win with a curling effort from the edge of the box, marking Al Ain’s first and only victory in the tournament.
