Sporting CP and Viktor Gyökeres are locked in a tense standoff regarding the striker’s expected transfer this summer. Although there was a prior agreement allowing Gyökeres to leave for a fee in the region of €65 million, including add-ons, Sporting’s stance has now shifted. The club’s president is reportedly demanding a higher fee, especially following the departure of sporting director Hugo Viana, who was a key figure in the earlier deal.
The situation has complicated what seemed to be a smooth transfer process. While Gyökeres and his representatives are standing firm on the original agreement, Sporting have adjusted their expectations. The revised asking price remains under his official €100 million release clause, but is no longer close to the previously discussed €65 million figure. This change has led to growing frustration within Gyökeres’ camp.

Described as furious, the Swedish international is hoping the club will honor the earlier pact and find a resolution soon. The 26-year-old forward has been a standout performer for Sporting over the past two seasons. Since joining from Coventry City, he has helped the Portuguese giants claim domestic silverware and return to strong form in both league and European competitions.
Gyökeres scored consistently across all competitions, played a key role in Sporting’s title run, and quickly became a fan favorite with his aggressive style and clinical finishing. His performances have earned attention from top European clubs looking to secure a proven striker ahead of the new season.

As it stands, the forward’s future is in limbo, with his camp urging a swift and fair resolution. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether a deal can be revived under new terms or if negotiations break down altogether.
