Palace, led by a team of young talents and a rock-solid defense, frustrated Pep Guardiola’s men from the first whistle. The decisive moment came in the first half when Palace’s main man, Eberechi Eze, capitalized on a quick counterattack, firing a low shot past Ortega. City, in contrast, looked sluggish and less of ideas. Their talisman, Kevin De Bruyne, was largely anonymous, and Erling Haaland, expected to be the difference-maker, barely had a sniff at goal. Despite enjoying over 70% possession, City’s passing was predictable, and their attacking play lacked the urgency that once made them Europe’s most feared side.
